Hints from TechStation!

Foam board is fun and easy to work with and can be used in many creative ways.

Please note that the core of the material is made of styrene foam which melt more than the cardboard surfaces when laser cutting. This makes it difficult to cut small features even in the relatively thin 3mm board. Features thinner than 2mm are therefore not recommended.

Worth noting is that the white foam boards are more prone to burn marks on the backside of your parts than the black sheets. The thickness of the material if also worth considering with regards to burn marks, the thicker the material you choose the more burn mark will be present on your part.

Benefits:

+ Nice surface

+ Easy to cut

+ Low weight

+ Strong material compared to its weight

Drawbacks:

- The surface is made of paper

Mechanical properties:

  • Density: 45-55 kg/m3
